Hello, my wonderful Chemistry students!
Here is your list of research questions. Pick ONE of these questions to research and find the answer to. Once you have researched and found your answer, do your best to explain your answer in one paragraph (7 sentences minimum). You may either type it or write it on paper. If you choose to write on paper, make it readable! I cannot give you credit if I cannot read your writing. Your paragraphs are due at the beginning of your first class next week. For A day students, this means WEDNESDAY Sept. 6th (because of the Labor Day holiday on Monday). For B day students, this means TUESDAY Sept. 5th. If you have any questions about this assignment, email me! :) Now, here are your questions: - Why is iron the last element to be made in the stars? - Why are heavier elements less abundant in the universe? - After a large star starts producing iron, how long does it take for the star to implode? - What happens to stars after they implode? - How did the Big Bang Theory come to be? - What is a black hole?

Science is all about asking questions and looking for answers!
That being said, at the end of each week, I will be posting interesting questions that have come up in class that I cannot immediately answer, as well as some other interesting questions that may be fun to delve into. Over the weekend, it will be the students' job to pick one research question that they are the most interested in, and find answers for themselves, using the internet, parents, books, pictures, etc. During the first class of the following week (usually Monday) I will ask the students what they learned. In class students will have a chance to share any information, short videos, pictures, graphs, or anything else they found with the rest of the class. This "mini presentation" should only take about 2-3 minutes, and will be counted as a point of extra credit in their homework grade. |
